STAGE 1 - MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS

From September 2008 till March 2009 we did 7 Power Point presentations in English language version, each of them covering a different aspect of Asian culture, mainly concerning China, Tibet, Hong Kong and Macau with Japanese elements. Once a month we organized a meeting where one student made a presentation of her work in Polish language version to other school club members.

SEPTEMBER 2008

Closer to Far East Culture - in early September students were acquainted with the project idea, schedule and Twin space.

At the end of the month they watched the PowerPoint presentation, entitled: "Country of great varieties & big contrasts" about curiosities of China as a lead-up and encouragement to this year project.

Later, they logged on to the Twin Space, got familiarized with new tools and gave comments on the presentation in the forum as well as inserted own documents and photos about their country and its culture, e.g. a short history of homeland, inventions, the best achievements, symbols of their country, natural resources, employment or unemployment problems, medals won at Olympic Games and any peculiarities.

OCTOBER 2008

Two students prepared the PowerPoint presentation about the tourist attractions of China, Hong Kong and Tibet in an English language version, next at a special meeting presented it to other Polish students in their native language, later inserted it in the Twinspace so that their German peers could watch it and express opinions in the forum.

Pupils made entries in the Twinspace about their impressions: which landmarks they liked most, which places they would like to visit personally. Volunteers prepared documents about the biggest tourist attractions in their country (UNESCO-heritage) or places worth seeing by foreigners because of their unique charm.

They also had an opportunity to get to know more about Pekin Opera, Acrobats’ show as well as religion rituals.

DECEMBER 2008

December is associated with Christmas, family gatherings at the festive table full of goodies, so we prepared the presentation about Chinese cuisine and eating habits. Another attraction planned for this month was dinner in a Chinese restaurant to taste local delicacies with the use of chopsticks and an interview with a native Chinese chef. We planned to record a film to show our German friends various Chinese dishes and share our impressions.

All students exchanged in the forum ideas which Asian dishes they have ever tried or fancy trying when the occasion arises. We also met in the chat room to exchange Christmas and New Year wishes.

Pupils made a successive PowerPoint presentation to show what souvenirs are worth brought from China or Hong Kong and to get acquainted with their export products.

Another step was to share ideas in the forum: Which souvenir they would like to buy?, What Chinese products are imported to their homeland?, What are main export products in their country and what commodity is sought after by foreigners?

Another presentation made by students concerned Chinese people, their language, education, attitude to marriage, family model, western trends and fashion in the past and now. Pupils were to compare their lifestyle with that of their eastern counterparts to find similarities and differences.

They were also encouraged to share their likes and dislikes about this presentation as well as answer the question if they could call their natives a nation of etiquette- good social manners.

MARCH 2009

Spring is associated with Nature, therefore we chose just this season to show the last presentation about Nature of China with much focus on the world of fauna & flora, the most amazing landscapes, caves and grottoes. No other country can boast the best landmarks in the world such as the oldest tree - ginkgo, the rarest animal - panda; the greatest canyon Brahmaputra, (504.6 kilometers long and 6,009 meters deep at its deepest spot. Its average depth is 2,268 meters).

Students looked through the enchanting landscapes and shared opinions what impressed them most. They were also encouraged to give info about typical as well as unique species of animals, birds or plants in their country.
